Impressed Ambrose sets Spalding Town a points target ahead of Sleaford showdown

Skipper Rob Ambrose wants his in-form Spalding Town side to be 30 points clear at the top of South Lincs and Border League Premier Division by the end of June.

Town, currently 17 points clear at the summit following last weekend’s derby win over Billingborough, have a week off on July 2.

Ambrose doesn’t want any other side to be able to overhaul his charges by that point and is targeting three wins on the spin against Sleaford 2nd (Saturday), Stamford (June 18) and Bourne 2nd (June 25).

The Town skipper is, however, wary of the threat posed by Sleaford 2nd at Spalding Grammar School this Saturday (1.30pm).

He said: “It’s always a tough game against Sleaford, no matter which side of theirs you are facing.

“I’d expect them to be in and around the top three come the end of the season, so we’ll need to be on top of our game again.

“Luke Hollingworth (ex-Town) plays for them now and we know about his ability. There’s a bit of banter flowing already.

“We’re missing a few players, but we’ve got in-form lads coming up from the second side – so they’ve got a chance to shine.

“I’m happy with our league form, I said at the start of the season that we need to be at the top.

“I’ve set the lads a bit of a target, actually. We’ve got a week off at the start of July and I’ve told them that I want us to be 30 points clear by then, so nobody can overtake us.

“The way we’re playing, that should be achievable.”

Dan Millgate, Chris Dring and Jimmy Hook are all missing this Saturday, but Josh Lawrence and Cameron Roy will step up.
