Fun in the sun for Nene Valley Harriers as they are top dogs at Embankment meet

The young athletes of Nene Valley Harriers and Peterborough AC locked horns at a sweltering Embankment Track on Sunday.

Nene Valley came out on top, finishing first of the seven competing teams, and winning five of the six age group categories, while Peterborough finished fifth.

Peterborough were at their strongest in the girls’ events and Elizabeth Taylor pulled off a remarkable treble, winning the under-13 200m, 800m and shot, while Charlotte Bennett was victorious in both the B shot and javelin.

Louise Chance won the B 70m and the Peterborough sprinters comfortably won the 4 x 100m relay.

Nene Valley’s under-13 girls had plenty of success too, with several athletes pulling off notable doubles.

Josie Downer won the 100m in 13.8secs and also leaped furthest in the long jump, with Alexander Boole winning the B event

Flo Brill took the 1,500m in an impressive personal best (PB) of 5.02.01mins and helped her team out by winning the B discus. Danielle Pusey was the A string winner.

Elsewhere, Alicja Gawrobski won both the B 200m and 800m events.

Nene Valley’s under-15 girls were equally dominant, and Amber Park pulled off a 300m and 800m double, while Ella Robinson took maximum points in the B 800m.

Elysia Constanzo was victorious in both the pole vault and long jump, as was Holly Yeeles in the B javelin and Katie Tasker in the B 1,500m.

Samantha Muchina achieved a sprint double for Peterborough, clocking 13.2secs in the 100m and 27.0secs in the 200m. Katie Porter was first over the line in the B 300m.

Peterborough’s under-17 girls also tasted victory with first place finishes for Megan Sims in the B 300m and Jamelia Henson 80m hurdles and B high jump.

Megan Porter won the high jump while Ellie Forest enhoyed success in the shot and the B 80m hurdles.

The Harriers were in top form too as middle distance star Megan Ellison won the 800m in 2.22.2mins, with Kelsi Ellis first in the B race. Josephine Fortune and Ellie Piccaver also gave their club A and B firsts in the 1,500m.

Rosie Fresen pulled off a triple and long Jump double, while Alex Stubley did the same in the B javelin and shot. Another on-song was Lydia Church, who won the hammer with a throw of 41.09m.

Nene Valley had plenty of winners in the boys’ event, though their points tally was aided by a lot of second and third place finishes.

At under-13 level there were firsts for Tim Foord in the B 200m and Freddie Fraser and Ben Peters in the A and B 75m hurdles. Fraser also won the long jump with Theo Briston first in the B version.

George Harrison and Adam Squires won the A and B shot as well, with Joseph Reindel taking the B high jump honours.

The only under-15 wins were achieved by Harry Smith in the B 80m hurdles and B string long jumper Jonathan Pitts

Peterborough’s only successes in the boys’ events were at under-17 level, as Ryan Adams won a close 100m in 11.7secs. Lewis Dawy and Ben Papworth made it an A and B 400m double too.

Nene Valley’s Josh Akinwumi was a clear first in the 100m hurdles, while Michael Fleming and Tom Maker won the A and B long jump.

Kai Harrison threw the discus 29.82m for first place and Jack Roffey and Bartosz Wozincki were winners of the B shot and discus events.
