Pinchbeck United suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Loughborough Students in their Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North opener on Saturday.
Goals in each half from Ethan O’Toole (45) and Matthew Bowman (64) earned the visitors all three points in front of a crowd of 50 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
It always looked a very tough opener for Lewis Thorogood’s Knights, who must now focus on bouncing back in Wednesday night’s home derby against Wisbech Town (7.45pm).
Meanwhile, Spalding United defeated a young Peterborough United side 3-2 in a friendly on Friday night.
First-half goals from Dylan Edge and Toby Hilliard put the Tulips 2-0 to the good at half time, but they were pegged back to 2-2 at the Sir Halley.
That’s until Hilliard struck again to give Brett Whaley’s side another impressive pre-season success.
It all starts for real for Spalding this Saturday when they host Deeping Rangers in the FA Cup (3pm).
