‘Eyesore’ set for spruce up

A Spalding grot spot is set to be tidied up with street art in time for the town’s flower parade on May 11.

Organiser Steve Timewell approached estate agent Bruce Mather, which is selling the old Calthrops shop in Market Place, over its boarded up front which has graffiti on it.
Now local graffiti artist Karl Barfoot has been given the green light to put his own street art on the display board before thousands visit the town.
“It’s an eyesore right in the middle of the town and on the parade route,” said Steve who posted on social media about it.
“Karl volunteered to produce a floral mural over the graffiti and several anonymous donors have put forward £150 to cover costs.
“It is such a shame that one idiot in the town feels it’s appropriate to spray graffiti and that we as a community have to put it right.
“I’m also amazed that the person wasn’t caught, considering we have CCTV in the Market Place.
“I am delighted that the community has pulled together to make Spalding a better place to live.”
