Ex-Knight Adams strikes to put the skids on Pinchbeck United’s unbeaten run

Boston Town 1 Pinchbeck United 0

A first-half strike from Liam Adams ended Pinchbeck United’s four-game unbeaten run on Tuesday night as Boston Town edged them out 1-0 in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North.

Adams, who lists Pinchbeck amongst his former clubs, grabbed the only goal of the South Lincolnshire derby late in the first period at the Mortgages For You Stadium as his strike following a counter-attack went in off both posts.

Ben Johnson had earlier missed two good chances for Pinchbeck, while Town keeper Travis Portass was forced to make a top save.

The Knights had been on a run of three wins in their last four games, but defeat against the Poachers sees them slip to eighth in the table.

Boss Lewis Thorogood felt his side deserved a draw, but credited Boston on a job well done.

“It was a very even game,” he said. “I felt like we did well in the first half and created enough chances to have got ourselves ahead.

“But Boston caught us on the break before half-time and went in ahead.

“There was a lot of rain in the second half, but I felt we kind of got bogged down into taking part in a long ball game.

“That’s not really our style and it played into their hands a little.

“I didn’t think we were quite as effective in the second half and we didn’t really look like scoring.

“There’s not a lot between the two sides and I think, by the way they celebrated at the end, it showed how much the win meant to them and that, perhaps, we’ve got a little bit more respect from other teams now.

“Full credit to Boston, they took their chance and that was the difference.”

Knights: Smith, Simpson, Robson, Spafford, Sheriff, Wiles, Foster, Williams, Peasgood, Johnson, Vieira. Subs used: Burdass, Melson, Parsons, Worthington.
