Success looks sealed for Eden Willmott at the London Marathon later this month.
Her mission is to promote awareness of the importance of conservation and to help raise funds in support of the work carried out by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
After completing her A-levels at the University Academy Holbeach and undertaking internships in conservation, Eden went on to gain a bachelor’s degree in zoology at the University of Lincoln. Since graduating, she has been running the seal hospital at Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness, where she has rescued, rehabilitated and released more than 150 harbour and grey seals, giving them a second chance at life in the wild.
Eden, from Gedney Drove End, will be swapping her work clothes for running gear on April 27 when she focuses on the challenging 26.2 miles route around the streets of the capital.
“After completing both the Landmarks Half Marathon and the Royal Parks Half, I rediscovered my love for running,” she said. “This inspired me to take on the London Marathon – not just for the personal challenge, but to help raise funds for crucial global conservation efforts.”
Eden is aiming to raise more than £2,500 in support of WWF, an organisation dedicated to restoring nature, protecting endangered species, and safeguarding our planet’s most threatened habitats.
During her working life she has witnessed the threats that seals and other marine mammals face due to habitat degradation, pollution and overfishing.
Through her Instagram account @sealrescuer – followed by more than 340,000 people, she shares inspiring rehabilitation stories, guidance on what to do if you encounter an injured seal and conservation tips.
So far Eden’s 47 supporters have pledged more than £1,700.
