Dunn’s delight at ‘devastating’ Pinchbeck United as Maltby smashes super six

Top scorer Ollie Maltby helped himself to a double hat-trick as Pinchbeck United crushed hosts Stilton United 11-1 on Saturday to record their biggest ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division win in recent memory.

Maltby scored his goals on 15 (pen), 20, 36, 40, 45 and 49 minutes at Knight Street, a haul that makes him the league’s leading marksman on 26.

Also on target for Ian Dunn’s side were Brad Murrell (8 & 39), Liam Ogden (17), the returning Tyler Wright (25) and Tom Panton (80).

Wright, who rejoined from Holbeach United last week, bagged the pick of the bunch.

It’s now 12 wins in a row in all competitions for The Knights, who are sitting pretty in fourth place.

Player/boss Dunn admitted that he told his side to go out and be ruthless before the game – and he got exactly what he asked for.

“Others teams have been scoring a lot of goals this season,” said Dunn. “The most we had managed was six (twice), so I told them to go out and score as many as they could.

“I couldn’t really have asked for any more.

“People will look at the score and think it was easy, but it was just a case of us being very good.

“It was devastating to watch, if I’m honest.

“To be fair, Stilton weren’t all that bad. They came and had a good go at us, which suited us down to the ground.

“We actually started pretty badly, but once that first goal arrived it was like an avalanche.

“Tyler also settled into the side nicely and was probably the pick of the players for us.”

Pinchbeck: Ashton, J Smith, Brooks, B Murrell, Shipley, Lawe, Gardner, Ogden, Bishop, Wright, Maltby. Subs used: Dunn, Panton, Eyes.

Saturday: Pinchbeck v Holbeach Reserves (2pm).
