Free Normandy visit on offer for veterans

South Holland D-Day veterans are being urged to take the opportunity to benefit from free visits to the Normandy beaches next year.
Arena Travel is working with the Royal British Legion to arrange free five-day visits by using funds from fines paid by banks involved in the LIBOR scandal.
And the firm is looking for nominees from the South Holland area to take up the offer in a series of visits during March, April, May and September.
D-Day veterans can be joined on the trip by two carers or family members while guides from the British Legion will accompany each group and set the itinerary based on where the veterans served.
Tours are expected to include Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries in the area, as well as the various beaches and sites such as the Mulberry Harbour and Pegasus Bridge.
And Martin Rickerd, a committee member with the Holbeach branch of the Royal British Legion, is urging local D-Day veterans to make the most of the opportunity.
He said: “It is an initiative which is being supported by the Royal British Legion.
“We hold no brief for Arena Travel and wish to publicise the offer merely on behalf of eligible veterans.”
