COLUMN: Green Team

Last week we celebrated the first anniversary of the Green Bag Lottery.

The rewards scheme has been running for 12 months with 102 winners of £100 over the course of the year.

The Green Bag Lottery aims to encourage better recycling and with a dry recycling rate of around 30 per cent, South Holland has a lot to shout about!

The latest winners from across the district include:
• Chris Page and Jessica Collins, Spalding
• Ben Still, Long Sutton
• William Girvan, Gedney Drove End
• Margaret Nunn, Holbeach St Marks
• Angela Barrand, Spalding
• Sharon Spencer-Hanssen, Donington

It is fantastic to see so many lucky winners every month and goes to show how successful South Holland is at recycling.

The montage to the right shows just a few of the lucky winners over the past 12 months who have bagged the cash just by putting out their green bag.

As a reminder for residents who use communal collection areas, when bags are piled together, we issue tags for green bags to any selected households. These tags allow the crews to see whether houses within the communal area are recycling.

The Green Bag Lottery scheme is funded by the Weekly Collection Support Scheme, a central government grant that has allowed the Environmental Services team to build upon and improve current services.

In addition to the Green Bag Lottery and as part of our ongoing efforts to make South Holland a cleaner, greener place we are inviting residents to get involved in litter picks across the area.

With the weather hopefully improving in the next few months it’s an ideal chance to take part in a litter pick in your area.

If you are interested please contact the waste and recycling team who are happy to lend equipment out and join in the activities!

Remember you can contact the team by emailing [email protected] or ringing 01775 761161. For the latest Green Bag Lottery news please visit www.greenbaglottery.co.uk.
