Changes at councils partnership

Council chiefs are in the process of appointing a new senior finance officer.

The South & East Lincolnshire Council Partnership (SELP) – which covers South Holland, Boston and East Lindsey councils – is looking for an new interim finance director, writes Local Democracy Reporter James Turner.
Brendan Arnold could soon assume the role, taking over from Christine Marshall – the joint deputy chief executive, corporate development and S151 officer, who announced her departure from the partnership in December.
During a full South Holland District Council meeting last week, leader Nick Worth said the chief officer employment panel had chosen to appoint Mr Arnold.
However, the process is not yet complete, with a formal acceptance and S151 officer arrangements still to be finalised.
Coun Worth described Mr Arnold as a “really nice guy” with a “huge amount of government experience across the board”.
He added: “He will be here in time for a handover with Christine so we get a smooth transition.”
Meanwhile, Peterborough City Council announced that Ms Marshall would be returning to the authority where she began her career as a junior clerk 40 years ago, taking on the role of executive director for corporate services and S151 officer.
“I am truly delighted to be joining Peterborough City Council. I have a real personal connection with the city, having lived here for most of my life and started my career with the city council as a junior clerk 40 years ago,” she said.
“It’s the place I call home, as it is to many of my family and friends, and therefore it is a privilege that I will be able to play a key role in shaping the future direction of the city.
“I look forward to starting with the council in March and playing a leading role in getting the council onto a stable financial footing.”
During last week’s meeting, James Gilbert (pictured) was also officially appointed as returning officer for the South Holland area and electoral officer to South Holland District Council. He will be responsible for maintaining the South Holland electoral register.
He said: “I am delighted to be appointed to these roles. Elections are crucial for democracy, so it is important that the proper and legal processes are followed to ensure they run smoothly. I look forward to working closely with South Holland’s fantastic democratic services and elections team as we prepare for elections this May.”
