Champions Moulton continue flying start

Reigning champions Moulton Harrox are making an early statement of intent after a stunning start to the new Peterborough League Premier Division season.

Harrox followed up an opening day 5-0 victory at home to Stilton by beating Thorney by the same scoreline on Tuesday night.

Louis Steadman, Joe Townsend (2), Martin Sandall and Ryan Wheeler were their goalscorers.

Moulton travel to Peterborough ICA Sports on Saturday before hosting Pinchbeck United on Tuesday in an eagerly-anticipated derby duel at Broad Lane (6.30pm).

Pinchbeck, having drawn 3-3 in their opener at much-fancied Netherton on Saturday, ran out 3-0 winners away at Holbeach United Reserves on Tuesday night.

Tony Edwards set Pinchbeck on their way to victory with a seventh minute opener from the penalty spot.

Tom Brooks doubled the advantage a minute before the half-time break with Edwards adding his second just prior to the hour mark.

Boss Ian Dunn said: “We started really well, hit the bar and then scored an early goal. We did take our foot off the gas. If we’d have kept it down we could have had a couple more.

“But I was pleased as we got three points, scored three goals and didn’t get any injuries or yellow cards.”

Sutton Bridge edged out Long Sutton in a closely-contested Division One derby duel at London Road.

Matthew Eaton, Ben Partridge and Kurt Scott netted the crucial goals for the victorious visitors.

Sutton felt disappointed not to gain at least a share of the spoils having seen a Matt Cawthorn header disallowed for offside and strong penalty appeals turned down in favour of awarding a free-kick when Nicky Treacher was tripped.

Sam Moses and Matty Oliver were the Long Sutton goalscorers.

Player-boss Cawthorn commented: “I thought the best side lost, but our performances are getting a lot better.”

Sutton: Taylor, Wayman, R Ward, King, M Ward, Treacher, W Oliver, M Oliver, Cawthorn, Moses, Melton. Subs used: Radeloff, Allen, Bennett. Unused: Nicholson.

Match sponsor: Ant Melton.
