Business woman’s ideas to improve town

A Spalding business woman has called for more help for the town centre.

Sue Stubley, of Occasions Jewellers, has said trade has been difficult since non-essential shops reopened.

She said: “It’s awful. The first week was ok but apart from that it’s been awful.

“People just aren’t buying.

“That’s why the town centre needs to be sorted.

“It’s especially sad seeing how few market stalls are in the town on market days.

“It would be great if the council invested some of the money they’re proposing for town centre improvements to brighten the market up with properly, brightly coloured gazebos.

“Car parking charges have come back in too and if they stopped those more people would be encouraged to come into the town.

“We’ve had the hanging baskets we normally have taken away because we’ve been told they can’t get anyone to water them, but they still water the permanent flower beds.

“I’d also like to see Beale’s developed into something.

“It would be a great place for an indoor market, plus you could rent space upstairs for individual entrepreneurs.

“Spalding town centre definitely needs something to help it.”
