Bid to open up new SEND school

A company is looking to create a special educational needs school for up to 24 pupils just outside Holbeach.

Hexagon Care Services, which says it has over 30 children’s homes, has applied for change of use planning permission for the Three Chestnuts on Fen Road.
The building is currently one of over 50 the company operates as a residential care home for six young people.
It now aims to open a independent school for up to 24 pupils with range of complex needs.
In documents submitted to South Holland District Council as part of the change of use planning application, the company says it will create eight new jobs.
“The proposal is to open and operate the property as a school for children with special educational needs,” the documents state. “The school will teach pupils with a range of complex needs, who have struggled in previous education placements.
“A broad, balanced, relevant education will be provided in keeping with the National Curriculum.
“The education will be tailored to each pupil’s exact needs.
“The school will have a dedicated headteacher, supported by qualified teachers and teaching assistants, who have the skills and experience needed to meet the individual learning needs of each young person.”
It states that there will be nine vehicle spaces for eight staff and that ’employees will be encouraged to car share, cycle or use public transport if suitable transport lines are available’.
It claims that a maximum of six school transport vehicles will get the 24 pupils to the location.
The site would be accessed off Fen Road.
“The existing site access is considered a safe and appropriate access for vehicles and cyclists travelling to and from the site,” the application states.
The Voice has approached Hexagon Care Services for a comment but had not received a response at the time of going to press.
