A derelict hotel in Sutton Bridge is back on the market a year after it was bought at auction.
The landmark building has undergone no refurbishment work and the current owners haven’t registered it with the Land Registry.
It was sold for around £100,000 more than the £80,000 guide price and there were high hopes that the new owners would renovate the eyesore site.
South Holland District Council has confirmed it will not be bidding at the auction due to be held on February 15.
It was going to bid at the auction in November 2022, but was outbid by the current owner.
“The council will not be entering the auction this time around as the reserve price is significantly higher than expected, but we hope the auction will attract private enterprises who will do something with the site and engage positively with SHDC in the coming months. We look forward to working with interested parties should the building be sold,” said a statement from the council this week.
The hotel is being offered for sale by auction on February 15 – with a guide price of £180,000.
The previous online auction, held in October 2022, saw the winning bid of £181,000 secure the property.
The council had been prepared to step-in if there had been no interest, but the high bidding proved too much for the authority.
Despite being on the Untidy Sites register and efforts by the district council to contact the owner, there has been no success and no work carried out.
The hotel was left totally derelict after a fire in 2016 and it has remained a blot on the landscape.
Permission had been granted in 2015 for demolition of the once-popular venue on the bank of the River Nene.
It is being marketed as a property having ‘many possibilities including a development site.’
It has 21 bedrooms, 18 of which are en suite.
