On April 6, the law in England will change to make it compulsory for every dog to be micro-chipped and registered to a national recognised database.
In preparation for this, Alder Veterinary Practice in Bourne Road, Spalding, has a special microchipping event on Saturday, February 27 (noon-4pm) for not just dogs but cats too at the reduced price of £8.
There is no need to book an appointment and you do not need to be previously registered with the practice. A veterinary nurse will implant the micro-chip and owner/keeper details will be registered by the practice onto the database.
Head nurse Zoe Reeve said: “We have so many dogs and cats brought into the practice as strays and without a microchip we struggle to trace their owners.
“Many dogs end up going into rescue centres for long periods and cats get rehomed and chipped by new owners after seven days of being handed into vets or rescue centres.
“This can be avoided by a simple two-minute procedure so please book your dogs and cats in, we look forward to seeing lots of you on the day.”
