Moulton Harrox recovered from a slow start to earn a five-wicket win at Bourne in the South Lincs and Border Premier League Championship.
After losing the toss, captain Chris Beale’s side were put into the field on the hottest day of the year.
The bowling effort started horrendously with the usually reliable Matt Rose going for 18 in his first over.
Harry Lovell took the second over and started well. Rose (2-24) recovered his form, taking the wicket of opener James Tickler for 10.
Australian Jamie Kitchen (3-38) came into the attack alongside Curtis Todd (1-24) and both bowled well, clamping the middle order of Bourne.
Home opener Ben Woodward reached his 50, supported well by Josh Bentley (18) and Xanti Xipu (27).
Junaid Alam struggled with his rhythm due to the low setting sun but Jamie Juckes came into the attack, taking the wicket of Woodward (64) on his way to 3-31 from his four overs as Bourne ended on 205/9 from their 45 overs.
Beale dropped himself down the order to No.5, allowing Matt Barnett and Juckes to open. Both started well before being dismissed for 36 and 32 respectively.
In-form RAF man Josh Newton did not last long, attempting a hack across the line for a sorry looking 8. Kitchen came in, needing a score as pressure mounted on his team.
He started well, rotating the strike as captain Beale helped steady the ship, enabling Kitchen to go past his half century.
Beale was bowled by an unplayable ball that zig-zagged across the wicket and Rose scored five before being done for pace, bringing the unpredictable Alam to the crease. Unfortunately he had to retire hurt with cramp after scoring eight.
Twelve-year-old Lovell joined Kitchen to form an excellent partnership that ultimately won the game, scoring an unbeaten 23 to go with his partner’s 81 not out as their team passed their target for the loss of five wickets with more than two overs to spare.
Moulton Harrox’s second XI suffered a
nine-wicket defeat at home to Billingborough in Division One.
Mark Ramsden won the toss and elected to bat, opening the innings with Joe Broomfield.
Broomfield started well, rotating the strike and taking advantage of any loose deliveries. Ramsden was the more cautious, which was his downfall, when he failed to back up and some mucky running meant he was run out for seven.
Ruarri Drumm supported Broomfield well, allowing him to pass 50. Drumm was eventually out for a well made 16.
Lincolnshire over 60s batsman Karl Hibbert was bowled for three, quickly followed by Broomfield, who was out for 52.
Danny Jackson chipped in with 28 not out and Cam Fox hit 10 to end things on 119/5 from 45.
Billingborough opened their innings aggressively, with Dave Newman reaching his 50 with his partner being caught behind from Broomfield.
However, the runs kept flowing, resulting in Billingborough knocking off the total in 14 overs.
Special mention to Zak Maddison, who was the pick of the Moulton attack.
Kitchen struck his second 50 of the weekend to help Moulton Harrox to a 14-run win against Orton Park in Division Four East of the Rutland Sunday League.
Openers Kitchen and Lewis Peak took full advantage of winning the toss and batting first.
The score rocketed to 109 from 16 overs with a brutal onslaught of classic Sunday hitting. Kitchen passed his half-century in the ton partnership before Peak was caught for 44.
Drumm came in, supporting the Australian well but was run out by his partner on the last ball of the innings, having supported him to an unbeaten 138 in Moulton’s 206/2.
Kitchen opened the bowling alongside youngster Lovell but neither were able to make a breakthrough.
Fox (1-46) eventually cracked the partnership, supported by Darren Hibbert (1-42) and Danny Jackson (2-19).
Lovell returned 2-37 to leave Orton 25 short of their target.
