Angling round-up: Emery is Tydd Gote’s Mega man, Thrower stars at Holbeach AC

Some 29 anglers lined the banks of the North Level for the final of the Tydd Gote AC Mega Match on Sunday.

Expectations were high following last week’s bumper weights of bream but after the Lord Mayor’s show came…not much.

Pete Emery was well out in front from peg six with an excellent roach and perch net of 9lb 4oz, but weights plummeted after that.

Freddie Spencer (on two) and Jez Rockett (four) were equal second with 2lb 9oz and Bob Bates fourth from peg 24 with 2lb 3oz.

With most anglers struggling in the cooler north east wind it was a low weight affair, with most sections won with 2lb or less.

Sammy McSpadden took the A section by triple default with a level 2lb, while Paul Bawden won the B section with 1lb 12oz.

Jamie Cooper topped the C section with just 6oz and Andrew Kilby bossed the D section with 1lb 15oz.

Wednesday Open Club match result: 1st John Taylor 3lb 12oz; 2nd Archie Greenwood 1lb 12oz; 3rd Dave Simmonds 1lb 4oz.

WIN: Jason Thrower.
  • Holbeach and District Angling Club were fishing at the orchard section on Sunday with some strong nets secured.

Jason Thrower claimed first place with 19lb of skimmer bream of the feeder, while Chris Newton took second with 12lb 12oz of roach on the pole – including a 2lb 4oz perch.

The top three was completed by Roger Smith with 8lb 7oz.
