Spalding area is well represented at National Bowls Finals

Spalding and District EBF bowlers were well represented at the National Finals in Skegness last week through the cold, wind and rain.

Playing under the Lincolnshire banner, the men’s father and son pairing of Chris and Harry Mycock (Spalding Castle Bowls Club) beat Suffolk 14-13 then lost in the semi-finals to North Cambs.

Under-25’s open pairs, Harry Mycock and James Cherry (Spalding Castle) beat Huntingdonshire then lost in the quarter-finals to defending champions Suffolk.

In the Marie Denny 2 wood mixed rinks, Harry and Chris Mycock, along with Maggie Wheatley, beat Derbyshire but lost in the quarter-finals to Northants.

Meanwhile, Marion Perkins (Moulton Harrox) beat Norfolk in the 2 wood singles, but lost in the quarters to Nottinghamshire.

Perkins also lost her 2 wood secretaries singles, also to Nottinghamshire.

The ladies’ pairing of Perkins and Julie Hicks (Moulton Harrox) then beat Cleveland and North Essex, but were beaten in the semi-finals by the eventual winners from Nottinghamshire.

Elsewhere, the Goodfellowship trio of Sandra Hammond, Barbara Cave and Sue Hoyles beat Northants in the 2 wood rinks, then lost in the quarter-finals to Huntingdonshire.

However, the biggest success came from Danielle Wild (Royal Mail Cart) in the under-25 2 wood singles as she beat Suffolk, Humberside and Huntingdonshire to reach the final, which she lost to Derbyshire.
