After seeing his side miss a host of chances in falling to a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Cogenhoe, it’s clear what Pinchbeck United manager Ian Dunn is hoping for this Christmas.
The Knights are now five points adrift of third from bottom Cogenhoe in the ChromaSport United Counties League Premier Division.
And after 12 successive defeats in all competitions Dunn hopes striker Ollie Maltby will be back from injury soon or he’s able to sign a new forward for the struggle against relegation.
Dunn said: “If we could finish then we would have won the game against Cogenhoe.
“We created enough good openings and were good going forwards, but we didn’t put our chances away.
“Then two or three errors at the back cost us.”
On Saturday they visit Wellingborough before the big local derby with Holbeach United at the Sir Halley Stewart on Friday, December 27 (ko 7.45pm).
Dunn is hoping he’s able to call on more firepower for the festive fixtures.
“We’re not going to get anywhere without putting the ball in the back of the net,” he continued. “We’re potentially looking at getting a striker in and we were speaking to two last week that we were looking to bring in but they turned us down.
“I’m hoping Ollie Maltby well be available.
On top of being injured he’s also been ill but I’m hoping he’ll be back for Saturday.
“Jordan Nuttall has played the last couple with a knee injury and we’re not sure how fit he will be for Saturday.
“That’s a big loss as he’s been doing well at centre back, but otherwise we’ve a clean bill of health ahead of Saturday.”
As well as bringing in attacking midfielder Sean Roberts from Huntingdon Town, Pinchbeck have been boosted by appointing a new assistant manager in James Brattan.
“I’m really pleased to bring him in,” said Dunn. “He knows the local football scene really well and you could already see the benefit of some of the fresh ideas he brought in on Saturday. It seems he’s instantly earned the respect of the lads.”
