National final for high-flying Weston Hills young gun Keris

Weston Hills youngster Keris Moore has qualified for the national final of the British Mountaineering Councils (BMC) Youth Climbing Series.

The 11-year-old competed in three qualifying rounds this year and delivered consistent performances to achieve third place overall and secure her spot on the Peak Climbing team for the April finals at Ratho, near Edinburgh.

Moore started climbing three years ago as a weekend hobby, completing levels of the National Indoor Climbing award scheme at Peterborough climbing wall.

She now trains as part of an elite climbing squad at Awesome Walls in Sheffield, meaning a weekly trip up north – along with additional weekend training sessions at different climbing centres across the United Kingdom.

When the weather is favourable, Moore does like to get outdoors and has started to tick off some of the many outdoor boulder problems in the Peak District on grit rock.

She is sponsored by a small local company Pitch Climbing (www.pitchclimbing.com) but is always looking for additional sponsors if any local companies are interested in backing her.
