Plans have been submitted to build homes on a site previously ear-marked for a new health centre for Holbeach.
The former JW Limming warehouse on Park Road is understood to have been at the centre of years of discussions between South Holland District Council and the Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) to create more provision for doctors in the town.
The council bought the land and the intention was to build the facility as part of a mini-courtyard at the back of The Chequers.
But the health group pulled out in 2023 telling council leader Nick Worth it ‘‘would not present value for money’.
Now Wrights Properties Ltd says it has bought the land ‘subject to planning conditions’ and has applied to demolish the derelict building and build five, three-bedroom homes.
Three terraced homes would face Park Road with a further two behind.
Documents submitted with the application state the site has been empty since 2018.
They state: “The proposed scheme will be in character with the area of Holbeach and the historic heritage of the Holbeach Conservation Area.
“This proposed development would create a much-improved street scene and area for the businesses and residents of Park Road.”
The documents also contain a detailed report of the work needed to clear the site of asbestos.
