A council leader will write to county bosses amid concerns that a town is regularly becoming gridlocked as a result of roadworks.
South Holland District Council leader Nick Worth (pictured right) has agreed to write to Lincolnshire County Council to voice his concerns about the number of roadworks currently taking place in Spalding – and the way the long-running scheme has been handled.
A £1.8 million cycleway and footpath scheme to boost connections between Spalding and Pinchbeck is creating congestion in and around the busy Pinchbeck Road area.
At a full council meeting on Thursday, October 15, Coun Andrew Woolf called on the council leader to write to the county council about Spalding’s ‘gridlock’.
He said: “Obviously, we know there’s a lot of roadworks going on and it’s become very difficult to get in. People have said to me they’ve missed appointments.”
In response, Coun Worth said he was ‘more than happy’ to write to the county council about the issue.
He added: “It’s a tricky one. The work’s got to be done – we all know it’s got to be done.
“The timing of it has probably not been the world’s greatest, but everybody has to learn a lesson somewhere.
“But I will write on behalf of the council and local businesses who have been in touch.”
