Spalding worked hard to keep Sleaford’s score down in their Lincs Premier League Premier Division encounter.
After winning the toss and inserting the visitors, Spalding kept Sleaford well shackled with no batsman able to move towards a half-century.
After painstakingly making their way to 147/4, Sleaford suffered a late-order collapse as Ollie Dring (3-22) and Mustafa Mughal (3-22) tore through the tail to leave them on 170 all out, losing their last six wickets for only 23 runs.
That left the door ajar for Spalding to upset the league leaders and pull clear of the drop zone.
Despite losing Jon Manton early on, Spalding progressed to 44/1 when Divyeash Vaseeharan fell for 26. That triggered a collapse to 55/4 but Barnaby Dring (32) and Mughal (21) dug in to steady things.
However, when they were parted to make it 92/5, the tail failed to wag and the last five wickets were mopped up for the addition of only 35 more runs, with the last three falling without troubling the scorers.
Rob Simpson was on fire as Long Sutton cruised to their second win of the Division One South season.
His 7.3 overs yielded seven wickets for 20 runs, with three maidens as Heckington were sent packing for 81.
Two of his victims were clean bowled, one was out lbw, with Daniel Oldfield, Josh Baker and Steve Morris, twice, snaffling catches.
After losing three early wickets to Charlie Baxter (3-15) to slip to 32/3, Tim Norris (26no) and Oldfield (28no) guided Sutton to a seven-wicket win.
Moulton Harrox Seconds failed to test Burghley Park, as they slumped to a 142-run defeat.
The visitors’ opening partnership of 66 proved to be enough on its own to outscore Moulton. Joseph Broomfield did his best to stifle the Stamford side with 4-29 from his nine overs as they chalked up 195/8 from their 45 overs.
Moulton lost both their openers with only nine runs on the board and after Ruari Drumm (15) and Eranda Munasinghege (12) had taken them to 36/2, lost six wickets for the addition of only six runs on their way to an all-out total of 53 in the 18th over.
For the second week running, Spalding Seconds were bowled out for less than 65 in Division Two South.
After scoring 64 against Royal Boston the previous week, Spalding managed only 60 at Orton Park Seconds.
It came despite an opening partnership of 33 between Andrew Sorrell (15) and Phil Lewis (12).
Three more wickets fell quickly as the visitors, who had won the toss and elected to bat, crawled to 46/4 but then lost two more wickets for three runs before seeing their final three batsman depart without scoring.
James Frascella took an early wicket but that was Orton Park’s only loss as they made rapid progress to 63/1 in the 13th over.
Long Sutton Seconds lost both their bank holiday weekend matches to make it five defeats from their opening five games.
At Freiston, Leake & Leverton on Saturday, Sutton were all out for 136 in response to the hosts’ 235/9.
Pradeep Indika took 3-30 from his nine overs but opener Mahir Yousuff (60) anchored the home innings.
A third-wicket stand of 50 between Alastair Droham (27) and Ellis Redden (24) raised Sutton’s hopes when they took the team to 84/2 but once they were parted, only Steven Milnes (29no) offered any resistance with a late blast, which yielded six 4s.
On Monday, Sutton won the toss against Orton Park Seconds but lost wickets quickly before Callum John (24) and Harvey Parker (22) dug in. Albi Drohan then hit an unbeaten 19 to help his team to 111 all out.
John (2-29) then took two early wickets in the visitors’ response but, with Faz Mukhtar also grabbing a victim, that was as good as it got, with Orton Park accelerating to reach a winning 115/3 in 14 overs.
