Terry targets a hole lot more

A 94-year-old who has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a Lincolnshire charity is hoping to get back on course for his latest fundraiser.

Terry Grantham has been volunteering and helping raise money for St Barnabas Hospice for the last three decades, including holding regular golf days.

The next one is taking place on Saturday, May 16, at Gedney Hill Golf Club and he’s looking for potential players and sponsors to get in touch.

Terry says he was inspired to fundraise for a hospice like St Barnabas, after seeing the care given to his wife Joan’s mum Betty and others including those he knew from decades as part of the Territorial Army.

He started by volunteering to drive people to and from the charity’s former centre in Woolram Wygate and has also given numerous talks including on his life as a war time evacuee from London and his career in book binding.

“The care in a hospice was rather different to the passing my own mum received and I wanted to give a little bit back as a result of that,” said Terry who has raised over £25,000 for the charity over the years. “St Barnabas needs to raise about £40,000 a day to keep going.

“If I can give a little bit back to help keep it open for others then I will continue to do so.”

This year’s golf day is the 17th he has held.

Entry for players in the individual stableford competition is £15 for Gedney Hill members and £25 for non members with the price including a bacon roll.

Terry is also looking for companies to sponsor the holes and competitions such as the ‘Nearest the Pin’ and Longest Drive’.

He’s also on the look out for raffle prizes.
