Lincolnshire County Council has announced which roads will be resurfaced using chippings in the next few months.
The authority says it is spending £6m on the work which it calls ‘one of the biggest ever undertaken’ involving 188 miles of roads in the county.
The roads in South Holland that will see the work carried out are:
Pinchbeck – Linden Way, Mayfield Close, Pennyfield, Blue Gowt Lane/Drove
Spalding – Van Gogh Drive, Rembrandt Way, Juniper Crescent
Whaplode St Catherine – Hurdletree Bank
Cowbit – Stone Gate, Curlew Drive, The Pastures, Meadow Walk, Milfoil Lane, Teal Grove
Whaplode – The Tilney, Franklin Walk, Golden Harvest Way
Gedney – Chapel Gate, St Mary’s Meadows
Long Sutton – Church Hill Court, B1359 Wisbech Road
Moulton – West Cob Gate
Holbeach – Park Road, Battlefields Lane North, Cackle Hill Lane
Holbeach Hurn – Hurn Bank
Holbeach St Marks – Eastern Road/Barge Road, St Marks Road, Lincoln Lane, Middle Marsh Road
Sutton Bridge – Hospital Road, Cocklehole Road
Fleet – Haycroft Lane, Hazelwood Lane
Fleet Hargate – Church End, Maisdyke Lane
Gosberton – Gosberton Bank.
Though it hasn’t said where, the county council say ‘selected locations’ will receive an ‘encapsulation treatment’ which is to help secure the chippings and provide additional protection to the new surface.
The works are scheduled to have been completed by the end of June.
Executive member for highways Coun David East said: “The scale of this year’s programme is massive and reflects the council’s commitment to maintaining the road network in an effective and cost-efficient way.
“The benefit of surface dressing like this is that it allows large areas to be treated quickly and at a fraction of the cost of full resurfacing.
“By using this approach over the coming weeks I hope that people on the roads treated can appreciate what we’re doing, and they can understand that this treatment is a great way to extend the life of a road before potholes set-in.
“I know that the early loose‑chipping stage is not always popular, but ask that everyone sticks to the 20mph limit where it’s necessary and the end result will be worth it.”
