Divisional cups get going

Monday saw the preliminary rounds of all three divisional cups in the Spalding and District Darts League played.

This season there is a new format in the cup which is double in double out which could cause some upsets.

In the Division One Supreme Cup Rose and Crown A beat Drayman’s Arms A 5-4 in tight encounter.

Drayman’s started well and found themselves 2-1 up after the pairs and then wins for Steve Urch with a 104 checkout and Kev Newton put Drayman’s in the driving seat and needed only one game out of the following four matches.

However Tyger Atkin, Dan Carnell, Finlay Clayton and Ian Lawson all won to seal the win for the Rose and Crown and only losing two legs out of 14 in their route of winning the last four games.

Royal Mail Cart had a slightly easier win beating Green Dragon A 6-3 but four of the games went to last leg deciders.

Singles wins for Paul Faulkner, Harry Faulkner, Josh Faulkner and Josh Ford was enough for Cart.

In the Division Two Dick Morgan Cup there was somewhat of an upset with Holbeach Services beating unbeaten Pinchbeck FC A 5-4.

Pinchbeck went 2-1 up but wins for Chris Chamberlain and Danny Goddard put the tie in Holbeach’s favour.

However, wins by Andy Mason and Will Cliff put Pinchbeck 4-3 up with two games to go but wins for Chris Blakey and Stu Stephens got the victory for Holbeach.

John McKenzie hit a maximum in his game and Blakey had a nice 146 checkout.

Riverside A had an easier night beating Five Bells 6-3 and after going behind in the pairs they won five of the six singles games to give them the win.

Wins came from Ben Taylor, Andy Picinelli, Tracey Baldwin, Carl Kirk and Kieran Twitchen.

In the Division Three Kelly Foster Cup there was another tight game where Tigers B beat their A team 5-4.

Tigers B went 2-1 up in the pairs and with wins from Tyler Collis and Kenzie Lee for the B team and wins for Martin Weed, Ian McCreery and Bradley Power the game was tied at 4-4.

It was captain versus captain and the B team captain Nick Quantrill edged out a nice 3-1 win to take his team through to the next round.

The other game in the cup was a 6-3 win for Moulton Harrox against Drayman’s Arms C.

Moulton were always in control and wins for Mark Jones, Phil Hubble, Tony Vickovic and George Phillips took the win.

A rearranged game in Division Three was also played in which Puncbowl beat Riverside C.

Archie Austen had a nice 16-dart leg in his victory over Ed Barnes but Punchbowl were too strong and the night and won the match with two games to go.
