Chappell’s off to a good start

Spalding Cycling Club’s weekly time trial returned to kick off the 2026 season.

It was a new course starting at Peak Hill racing back towards Spalding around the roundabout for the return to the Crowland finish line.

It was a familiar face at the top of the times with defending five-mile champion Matt Chappell storming to the win in a time of 11 minutes dead.

Iron man Nigel Swepson was 36 seconds adrift in second with Dominic Brand rounding out the overall podium and in doing so claiming the win in the Road Bike category.

Jordan Green came home second in the road bikes, followed by Simon Wright in third.

Evgeniya Brand picked up exactly where she left of last season with a dominant victory in the women’s category in a time of 12:35 which was also enough for seventh overall.

Samantha Briffett was again Brand’s closest rival with a 15:04 and returning rider Christine Payne was third 32 seconds further back.
