Despite there only being three matches in the Spalding and District Billiards League on Monday, there was an outstanding performance from Broadway’s Gary Norman.
Gary had just qualified for the last 32 (intermediate stage) of the English Amateur Championship at the weekend, and on Monday his club were playing their first home game of the season against Consti.
Gary (O 255) hit a highest break of 112 and a 59 as well as six breaks in the 20s, on his way to a 200 – 58 victory over Mick Johnson (O 105). John Bellerby (R 95), levelled things up for Consti beating Steve Singh (O 45) 200 – 148. A tense last game saw Broadway edge the result in their favour when Wole Akintola (R 45) managed a five point win against Stewart Davies (R 40). Broadway winning 5-2 overall.
The new Services team have a great enthusiasm for the game, despite being at the foot of the table, they will soon be improving without a doubt.
This week they hosted Pyramid B, Max Ayliff (R 60) getting the visitors off to a good start winning 200 – 150 against Chris Dunmore (O 15). Phil Cooke of Pyramid (R 100) and Nigel Cherry (R 80) had a tight finish to their game with Phil edging past the victory post by four points 200 – 196.
To wrap up a 7 – 0 victory for Pyramid, Darrell Read (R 30) orchestrated a 200 – 144 win against Phil Spencer (R 65).
