Gritty name for vehicle

When it came to coming up with a cool new name for a gritter, those at Sense in Pinchbeck stepped in.

Lincolnshire County Council has new additions to is fleet of vehicles, but the needed new names.
Among those suggested were Julius Freezer which had won a poll created by those who attend the Sense day centre.

Last week, staff and attendees were able to get up close with the vehicle they’ve named which will be based at Pode Hole and grit the Glenside South Road outside.

Attendees were even allowed in Julius’ cabin after carrying out the grand unveiling.

Sense Pinchbeck deputy manager Danni Knutton came up with the name.

“It’s really exciting seeing it up on the lorry,” she said. “Everybody was interested in it and we’ll be looking out for it when it gets really cold.”

Hayley Simons, LCC’s community engagement officer, said: “It’s great to get our of the community and see the faces of those who have helped name the vehicles.

“It can help make their day.

Senior engagement officer Emma Ball added: “The gritters are vital but the public don’t tend to see the work they do.

“This gritter in particular will be out in the winter months helping keep them safe by gritting the road they’ll take to get to Sense.”
