Tom Roberts admits that he’s loving life as Holbeach United’s assistant boss.
Roberts, who is only 28, arrived at Carter’s Park as Darren Jarvis’ number two in the wake of John Chand’s departure back in March.
The South Holland native and Jarvis are expected to be very active in the summer, as they bid to rebuild the squad at Carter’s Park.
Despite being a highly-rated keeper, “Robbo” insists that he doesn’t have any regrets about swapping his gloves for the dugout.
He said: “Do you know what, I’m really, really enjoying it. I don’t think we could have asked for any more from the players, they’ve responded to everything we’ve said.
“Barring the Sleaford game, I think we’ve performed really well.
“Obviously at 28 I am quite young to be on the sideline, but I think my experiences managing Pinchbeck United Sunday have really helped.
“Some of the recent results haven’t been ideal, but that had to be expected with the mess we inherited.
“We’re both very excited about next season, planning is already well under way for that. It’s just a case of finishing the season as well as we can and getting as many points as we can.”
Holbeach are currently on a five-game winless streak, but were encouraged by a fine 2-2 draw against Thurnby Nirvana on Tuesday night.
This Saturday sees a trip to already-relegated Long Buckby (3pm), before a home finale against second-from bottom Harborough Town the following week.
Two wins against the bottom two should be enough to fend off Yaxley and Cogenhoe United for fourth position – but Roberts has warned his side that it won’t be easy for them.
“They are winnable games for sure,” added the Tigers number two. “But it could be harder than we think at Long Buckby.
“They are already relegated – and you never know how they’ll react. We’ve just got to go there and perform like I know we can. The same goes for Harborough the following week.”
Defensive duo Matt Warfield and Stacy Cartwright will miss the final two games through injury, but Jack Marsden could feature.
