A 122-year-old window has been given a sparkling restoration.
All Saints’ Church in Holbeach has had its west window restored thanks to fundraising by the Friends of All Saints’ and funds donated by the Mary Bass Charity.
The window, which depicts Jesus’ ascension into heaven, was initially installed in 1902 thanks to a £400 donation by John Warin Willders as a memorial to his wife Emperingham.
It was designed and made by John Hardman and Co, Birmingham, but a recent survey had found it needed urgent repairs.
Around £68,000 had to be raised for the restoration work which took Delvin Plummer Stained Glass Ltd of Norwich 16 weeks to clean and strengthen.
“It’s just stunning,” said Reverend Sherine Angus. “We had a survey a few years ago and it was found to be falling out.
“It was taken out, painstakingly cleaned and made to be more secure.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have some incredibly generous donations.”
The window will be on display at the All Saints’ Flower Festival which takes place this weekend.
