South Holland resident pays for damaging bathroom

V NEWSA resident is more than £640 out of pocket having paid for damaging a bathroom during an argument at his home.

Sam Williams was involved in an altercation with his partner at their home in Surfleet in April.

As a result, South Holland District Council had to replace a toilet suite, bath panel, sink basin, plug socket and a central heating programmer.

His partner, the tenant of the home, did not press charges against him but council housing officials charged Mr Williams for the damage he had caused.

Mr Williams was given a conditional caution by police on July 23 and agreed to pay the council £640.88, meaning the authority avoided incurring any costs for the incident.

Coun Christine Lawton, portfolio holder for housing landlord, said: “We will take firm action against residents whenever damage is caused to our properties.

“This incident should act as a clear warning to anyone that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable.”
