South Holland council tenant gets demotion after drugs found at home

V NEWSA Spalding resident has had her council tenancy agreement downgraded after her partner was convicted of dealing drugs.

The demotion order for South Holland District Council tenant Danielle Batch and her partner Jay Smith was applied for after police officers executed a warrant at their home in Hereward Road in Spalding and found £120 worth of cannabis along with scales and deal bags.

Smith later appeared at Lincoln Crown Court and pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

The demotion order was granted during a recent hearing at Boston County Court and resulted in the tenancy agreement being downgraded to an introductory tenancy.

This means that the council can apply for eviction if the tenancy is breached again.

Coun Christine Lawton, portfolio holder for housing landlord, said: “We will not hesitate to take action against tenants if they breach their agreements.

“This example should serve as a clear warning to anyone thinking about committing similar offences.”
