Wrights on it in derby victory

Andrew Wright recorded an excellent century as Long Sutton 2nd comfortably won the local derby against Spalding 3rd in South Lincs and Border League Division Two.

Wright, opening alongside James Wright (80) hit 101 as Long Sutton took command right from the off.

They worked the ball to all parts of the Spalding Grammar School ground in Saturday’s match.

Spalding’s Carl Andrews (3-68) was able to cause problems and had James Wright bowled, but some late hitting from the likes of Angus Bell (36 not out)Josh Baker (26) led Sutton to 311-5 from their 45 overs.

William Gardner (1-27) ended Andrew Wright’s stint.

Despite 35 from opener Nigel Gardner and a huge 46 extras, Spalding didn’t get close to the target as Sutton’s bowlers came to the fore.

Wickets for Josh Baker (2-10), Ed Munson (2-14), James Wright (2-18, Andy Shaw (2-27) and James Baker (1-6 from six) left Spalding 116 all out after 44 overs.
