Worries road is sinking again

Residents in Boston Road South in Holbeach have been getting that sinking feeling again.

The road has been closed numerous times after collapsing, despite extensive work by Anglian Water and Lincolnshire County Council.
Problems haven’t been experienced for a while, but now residents are saying the road is noticeably dipping once again.
Resident Ann Gregory said the most recent issue was outside Paul’s Carpets.
“Last week it was a wave and this week it’s a real bump in the road,” she said. “I’m sure it will be closed again.
“It’s getting worse quite quickly.
“The residents feel it’s due to the amount of heavy lorries and traffic.”
It’s been a major headache for Anglian Water which has vowed to send somebody out, but a spokesman said it doesn’t believe it’s their sewer causing an issue with the road currently.
“Our teams relined the sewer in Boston Road South in 2022 – this helps prevent groundwater infiltration and keep the network resilient,” the spokesman said.
“Although we have had an incredibly wet winter, with the rainiest February on record for our region, we’re confident that the work in 2022 has made a difference. Recent surveys have shown our sewer is free flowing and not causing any problems with the road.
“Because this is a priority area for us, our engineers will be carrying out additional surveys to confirm that our network is operating as it should.
“We’ve worked closely with Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways team on Boston Road South, and we’ll continue to keep them updated with the results of our survey.”

Richard Fenwick, head of highways asset and local management services, said: “We’re aware of these issues on Boston Road South and have notified Anglian Water so they can survey the condition of their drainage pipe here, where the previous reinstatement was made.

“If there is no problem with their water system, it’s more likely than not that the previous reinstatement has settled, causing a dip. If that ends up being the case, we would work with Anglian Water to re-level the surfacing.

“In the meantime, we will continue monitoring the condition of the road and, if it becomes dangerous for road users, we will intervene to make the road safe.”
