Winner Ken is quite a Wonder Boy

A Spalding dressage yard is celebrating national glory and setting its sights high for international success.

Sofia Jankiewicz, 27, runs a small competition, training and sales livery yard and has produced a young pony, which she says is an exciting prospect for the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) Great Britain team.

The foundations were laid at the KBIS four-year Young Dressage Pony Championships where Jankiewicz rode Wonder Boy, known as Ken, to victory.
She said of her steed: “Ken is the perfect pony. He has such a lovely character and he absolutely loves his work.
“He’s very clever and quick to learn. I purchased him as a project to produce and very sadly he will be for sale soon as he isn’t big enough for me.
“I just wish he could have a growth spurt as he’s everything I look for when buying a horse. He has a very bright future ahead of him and it will be sad to see him go when he finds a new home.”
It was a weekend of firsts for Ken, as Jankiewicz explained: “It was his first time at a stay-away show, first time competing indoors and first time doing a prize giving but he behaved like a pro.
“He has all the qualities to make a top FEI pony I have no doubt he will be successful in the future with a very lucky rider.
“His test went well with lots of highlights but also a few green wobbles, which is understandable for his age (four-years-old). I was just so pleased with how professional he was for such a young pony and I’m pleased the judges could also see this.”
