Pinchbeck United 0 Cogenhoe United 4
Chairman Gary Coomes admitted his disappointment at Pinchbeck United’s 4-0 home humbling against Cogenhoe United on Saturday.
The match proved to be a fifth and final fixture in charge of the Knights for Tom Crozier, who was sacked in the aftermath on Monday.
After a goalless first half, Cogenhoe netted through Nat Ansu (61), Archie Culley (72), Will Russell (73) and Jordan Orosz (75) at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
The four goals came within 15 minutes of each other, but Coomes felt the scoreline was harsh on his side given that three of the back four picked up injuries in the second half.
He said: “I thought we looked very competitive in the first half.
“But the second half was an absolute nightmare.
“We had three of the four defenders having to go off injured – and we didn’t have any other defensive players to come on and replace them.
“It wasn’t the worst performance, but we can’t be losing 4-0 against a side like Cogenhoe given our situation in the table.
“Credit to them, they punished us. Cogenhoe are a very steady UCL side that always seem to be in mid-table.
“We looked at the game and thought there was a chance there for us to get that first win of the season, but it wasn’t to be.
“It’s a shame, we were very much in the game until the injuries. I was treating one of the lads and, by the time I’d finished helping him off, they’d scored two quick goals.”
Pinchbeck are now second-from-bottom in the table and one of two teams yet to win this season.
