Win and loss as Tigers do battle with league’s top two

Holbeach United’s double against the Thurlow Nunn Division One North got off to a disappointing start as they were beaten 5-1 by Framlingham Town on Saturday.

After getting an impressive 1-0 win at home to Great Yarmouth the previous mid-week, the Tigers made the trip to Suffolk on the back of successive wins.
And they took the lead early on through a George Frost goal.
Framlingham though got back into the match on the half hour with Johnny Kerridge scoring a header before they quickly netted a second in bizarre circumstances.
After the referee stopped play he went to give the ball to Holbeach, only for Framlingham’s Archie Exworth to take the ball and score.
The referee gave the goal much to the Tigers’ anger.
He further drew ire from the visitors for disallowing a second for Holbeach for an alleged foul on the home keeper. Scorer Avi Veira was alleged to have fouled the home keeper who it looked as if had actually collided with his own defender.
In the second half, Framlingham took control.
Nathan Read scored the third just after the break, then Max Willett scored his 35th and 36th goals of the season for the league leaders.
The Tigers don’t have to wait long to look to get their revenge.
They host Framlingham at Carter’s Park in the return fixture this Saturday.
It came on the back of the 1-0 win at home to Yarmouth, a result manager Danny Clifton called “a fantastic team performance against top quality opposition”.
Another Frost early goal proved decisive as the Tigers’ defence put in a brilliant showing to earn a clean sheet.
Yarmouth finished the game with ten-men as Cameron Barnes was sent off.
It was the away side’s first defeat since September.
Holbeach remain sixth in the league, a point behind Harwich and Parkeston in the last play-off position.
Harwich though have a game in hand while seventh placed Cornard United are three behind the Tigers but with three games in hand.
