A service station’s fun day proved a huge success that raised over £2,200 for charity.
Those who work at Welcome Break (formerly Applegreen) on the Lincolnshire Gateway Business Park put on the event recently for The Tulip Suite at Johnson Hospital and the group’s chosen charity Macmillan.
It featured a host of games and stalls, classic cars plus entertainment including from the band Retrospekt.
It was led by Vikki Smith who runs the Costa branch.
“I’m really proud of all the team at Welcome Break,” she said. “We’re always looking to support our community and the Tulip Suite is such a fantastic place.
“A huge thank you to everyone who attended including CD Inflatables, Spalding Rotary, Spalding Lions and the 3rd Spalding Brownies.
“All of our customers have been brilliant too providing amazing donations.”
Last week Vikki, Marianne Hawkins, of the Gregg’s branch, and Kieran Vertannes, who oversees the petrol station side, visited The Tulip Suite to see first hand the care it offers.
The suite is set for a major renovation soon and fundraising to completely refurbish the four rooms that provide palliative care is going well.
Sue Wray, of the Spalding Hospice Foundation which oversees The Tulip Suite, said: “Thank you to everyone at Welcome Break and those who donated money and helped raise a fantastic amount.”
Welcome Break are also continuing to run more fundraising events. They include a car boot sale on September 17 from 9am to 12pm. Those wishing to sell can attend from 8am with all of the £5 fee going to Macmillan and The Spalding Hospice Foundation.
