Walk this way as fundraisers go big for charity event

Dog walkers took to the streets of Spalding on Sunday to raise funds for the Lincolnshire East Branch of the RSPCA.
Around 60 dogs were registered for the first RSPCA Big Walkies event which started at Ayscoughfee Hall Gardens in Spalding.
Walkers came from across south Lincolnshire to participate in either a 3km or 5km sponsored walk along the riverside footpaths of the River Welland and Coronation Channel.
Julia Ely, an RSPCA branch trustee who was one of the organisers of the Spalding event, was thrilled with how it had gone.
She said: “We had a great day. We had about 60 very smart looking well behaved dogs and their families taking part. The sun shone for us and it was lovely walk along the river bank through Spalding.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who turned up, to all the volunteers and to the staff at Ayscoughfee Hall for their support.
“We are waiting for sponsorship money to come in and we ask those attending to collect as much as they can, so that we can continue to support animals in need.”
The event was part of a nationwide fundraising initiative which was supported by the RSPCA and sponsored by Vitality, who ran a competition on social media to win luxury goody bags. There was also a range of fundraising merchandise on sale on the day.
