Velo Prix event puts town on cycling map

There were thrills – and spills – at Spalding’s first Velo Prix event.
Spalding Cycling Club made the most of the current popularity of cycling to host a range of events to bring it to the masses.
Young and old alike were able to get involved – with competitions for established cyclists from all over the area and leisure rides to take in flower festivals in Pinchbeck and Surfleet for those who wanted to take it a little easier.
Spalding town centre also played host to an Italian Pursuit-style track race on Sunday, where rain made the route a trifle treacherous at times.
But as it dried up there was time for a cops and robbers themed event between police officers and the cycling club’s older youth members.
The club’s Tim Bryett said: “The weekend was a fantastic success, supported by schools and cycling clubs from across the area.
“About 40 riders of all ages took part in the guided rides and thanks must go to all those who made it such a success.”
