Vase and County hopes ended

The route to cup glory proved short for Holbeach United on two fronts.

Last Wednesday saw them exit the Lincolnshire County FA Senior Trophy, 2-1 at home to Skegness Town, and then on Saturday they fell 3-0 to Hellenic League side Droitwich Spa in the first round of the FA Vase at Carters Park.
Jordan Keeble gave the Tigers a 19th-minute lead against Skegness and they were good value for their half-time lead. However, the United Counties League Premier Division side hit back straight after the break, equalising from a penalty within three minutes and grabbing the winner nine minutes later.
An entertaining FA Vase tie against their Worcestershire visitors saw a goalless first half. Dan Roberts headed over from close range before goalkeeper Dom Rogerson saved Harvey Thorne’s effort. Jordan Oldham put his header over the bar before Ryan Cook was denied by Rogerson
The Tigers, playing in their ‘lucky’ blue away kit were caught out by a long-range goal and after conceding again fell three behind in the closing stages.
Tigers v Skegness: Simpson, Greenacre, Lee, West, Oldham, Carter, Compton, Roberts, Keeble, Ibeneme, Cook. Subs: Wright, Thorne, Yambasu, Millinson.
Tigers v Droitwich: Simpson, Greenacre, Lee, Ling, Oldham, Carter, Thorne, Roberts, Wright, Keeble, Cook. Subs: Compton, West, Yambasu, Ibeneme, Coccitti.
