Upbeat Thorogood wants to end Pinchbeck United’s FA Vase curse

Lewis Thorogood is aiming to end another Pinchbeck United hoodoo on Friday night.

The Knights, who have never won a game in an FA competition, welcome Graham Street Prims to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field tomorrow night (7.45pm) for a second round qualifying clash.

Having steered Pinchbeck to the end of their 751-day winless streak, Thorogood is now hopeful he can repeat the trick and break their FA Vase duck.

With their opponents sitting 21st in Chromasport UCL Division One – a level below Pinchbeck – and having won just one of their ten league games, Thorogood’s side are hot favourites to win.

“We’ve got this unwelcome record of never winning a game in an FA competition,” said the Knights boss. “Well, I may as well do my best to help break another hoodoo.

“From my perspective, all I want is to take the club into the next round and go on some kind of run if we can. It’d be great for the club – and the players, too.

“Our opponents are a league below and obviously having a tough time, which is something we can easily relate to from previous seasons.

“So, we’ll take nothing for granted and treat them with respect, the same as every other game this season irrespective of the opposition.

“We picked up a few knocks in the 2-2 draw at Heather St John’s (see page 29) so have a few injury worries ahead of the game.

“But we’re all feeling confident at the moment and are looking forward to the game.”

The Knights are boosted by the return of striker Enoch Opayinka, who scored four times in the recent win over Newark FC.
