Two titles for Spalding Golf Club as classy Keogh impresses

Spalding Golf Club professional Adam Keogh was on stellar form at the PGA Lincolnshire ProAm event last week.

Played amid perfect conditions at Sleaford Golf Club on Thursday, Keogh romped to victory by four clear shots in the individual competition.

His seven under-par score of 65 was one of only two under 70, with second-placed Oliver Harrod (69) the only other to manage the feat.

He was also a member of the successful Spalding team which took first place overall in the team event.

  • Spalding are through to the semi-final of the Bramley Cup after an excellent 2-1 win at Kenwick Park in the last eight.

Wins came from Simon Richardson (4&2) and Tommy Hull (1up), while Hugo Kedzlie was beaten 2&1 by England A Team ace Sam Done.

  • Derek Murphy was the Division One winner at Spalding Golf Club’s June Medal event.

Murphy, who plays off a 12 handicap, shot a 67 to claim the top prize in a field on 170 at the Surfleet course.

Second place went to Simon Richardson (-3) on 68, with John Spencer (11) scoring the same to complete the top three.

Steve Phillips (13), Daniel Hines (0) and Stephen Camm (10) all scored 70 to place fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

In Division Two, Christian Green (21) led the way on 70, with Keith Holland (21) and Terry Thorpe (24) second and third respectively after both shot 71.

Charles Wallis (15), George Neary-Phillips (18) and Christopher Horspole (22) all scored 72 to round off the top six.

The highlight of the day saw Dave Fitter achieve a hole in one on the par three ninth hole with a beautifully struck six iron, which drew into the back left flag position and found the bottom of the cup.

  • Spalding’s men’s first team suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 4-2 away at defending champions Belton Park.

Hugo Kedzlie and Chris Hancock won 3&2, Dan Hines and Darren Ford won 1up, Harry Hunt and Spencer Gooderson lost 2&1, Emile Van de Merwe and Wayne Wallace lost 2&1, Tommy Hull and Richard Laud lost 2&1, Keith Hearne and Jonathan Mason lost 3&1.

Spalding’s second team returned the compliment, however, beating Belton Park 2nd 5-1 at Surfleet.

Matt Richardson and Mick Bates won 4&2, Ant Murphy and Simon Horton halved, Miles Foden and Nick Holmes won 2&1, Glen Chilvers and Simon Rothwell halved, Trev Laud & Steve Baxendale won 3&2, Charles Wallis and Neil Wheatley won 6&5.

  • Last Wednesday saw the men’s nine-hole qualifier played, with 45 golfers taking part.

Jake Brown was the winner on 21 points, ahead of Kevin Siddle and Stephen Camm (both 19 points).

  • Spalding’s club captain Tony Holbrook led a mixed team to an impressive win at King’s Lynn Golf Club.

A great day was had by all, with Spalding taking the honours 5.5-4.5.
