Tulips striker earns World Cup call up

Spalding United striker Spencer Weir-Daley was in World Cup action over the weekend.

The 35-year-old who is on dual forms from Peterborough Sports has been representing Montserrat in the opening round of fixtures in the first round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2022 World Cup set to be held in Qatar.
Weir-Daley started the opening fixture against Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday, March 24 in Willemstad, the capital city of Curacao.

Montserrat drew the game 2-2 against the group’s second highest seeded team with Lyle Taylor twice giving them the lead before being pegged back.

Last Saturday he was an unused substitute as Taylor scored a last minute equaliser against El Salvador to earn a 1-1 draw against the top seeded side in the five team group A which also contains Granada and the UK Virgin Islands.

Montserrat are currently ranked at 165 in the FIFA world rankings.
