Spalding United’s wait for competitive football is over as they are set to take on Peterborough Sports in a pre-season friendly at the Sir Halley Stewart on Saturday.
The Tulips will be back in action for the first time since March in their warm up for the Northern Premier League Division One South East Division, though unfortunately the game will be behind closed doors.
Boss Lewis Thorogood said: “All the lads are excited to be able to put that football kit on again.
“They were excited to be back at training but after a while you just really want to play a game of football.
“For us this is all about the lads playing together, working on our shape and patterns of play.
“The lads are looking very fit and have been working very hard for about a month.
“We’ve started to build that understanding in small sided trainings but now we need to do that in full games before the season starts.
“Peterborough Sports are a really good side with a strong squad and Jimmy Dean has done a fantastic job there.
“Obviously we want to win every game but this is about working on our shape and togetherness.”
The Tulips are likely to start their season with an FA Cup tie, though they’re waiting to hear whether that will be in the Preliminary or Extra Preliminary round.
The list of clubs accepted into the cup, FA Trophy and FA Vase plus confirmed dates for rounds is to be released by the FA on Monday (August 3).
