Traffic chaos was brought to Fleet and Gedney on Friday evening when the A17 was shut for three hours after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

A 17-year-old girl from Gedney suffered a broken arm after a collision with a Seat Alhambra while she was crossing the road at about 5.55pm.

Police said: “She was airlifted to hospital but fortunately her injuries weren’t as serious as first thought.”

There were no injuries to the occupants of the Seat, from Wisbech. Police took no further action.

Police set up diversions through Fleet and Gedney, and roads in the surrounding area quickly became choked. The A17 was reopened at about 9.20pm.
