Town to take to the water

South Holland residents are being asked to put Saturday, June 8, in their diary for a new riverside festival.
Welland Yacht Club are officially the host of the event being backed by the Spalding Town Forum.
As an extension to their usual open day, it will also include a flotilla of various crafts that will progress from their River Bank base (off Cradge Bank) up to the Moorings pub.
Coun James Le Sage has been involved in putting the event on.
“I and the yacht club would like to see as many people down there as possible to try their hand at various water sports including sailing and canoeing,” he told last week’s meeting of the Spalding Town Forum. “The plan is there will be a flotilla going down the river about midday with refreshments at The Moorings pub.
“The flotilla will then come back that day and I believe there’s some entertainment being put on at the club later on that day.
“Anyone looking to join the flotilla will have to bring their own equipment and be registered for the river.
Anglian Water have said they will send someone along who will be able to provide the correct way to get your water-borne craft correctly licensed.
“It’s important to celebrate this fantastic river we have and is under utilised.
“We’d like to see as many there as possible.”
Would like it to be annual event, coincides with club’s open day.
