Thorogood remains confident that Pinchbeck United will beat the drop ahead of free weekend

Lewis Thorogood remains confident that Pinchbeck United will stave off relegation from the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North this season.

Pinchbeck are two points behind rivals Newark and Selston in the standings, with one of them likely to join rock bottom Holbeach United in falling through the trap door.

This weekend sees the Knights without a fixture, while Newark host Holbeach and Selston welcome second-placed Gresley.

Pinchbeck still have Newark to play among their remaining seven games and Thorogood still feels the battle to survive is wide open.

“There was no real change to our situation over the weekend,” said the Knights chief. “But you have to expect that Newark will beat Holbeach on Saturday, which will effectively be Holbeach done for.

“Then you’re looking at one of us, Selston or Newark. They’ve got games in hand on us, but their fixtures are harder.

“We’ve still got Newark to play and our March fixtures are all against teams that we will have chance of beating.

“The loss at Sleaford last weekend was disappointing, we weren’t up to our recent standards.

“But we have to back ourselves now and, in the last seven games, grind out as many results as we can.”

Pinchbeck have arranged a friendly against league rivals Sleaford Town on Saturday.

The match will be played at Knight Street (1.30pm), with both sides being without a league fixture and having already met each other twice.
