Lewis Thorogood feels that March will be a key month in Pinchbeck United’s bid to stay in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North.
The Knights, who sit in the relegation zone ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, have just seven games left to play this season and are playing catch-up on direct rivals Selston and Newark.
Starting with a trip to tenth-placed Leicester Nirvana on Saturday (3pm), Pinchbeck have home games against 12th-placed Heanor Town (March 19) and eighth-placed Heather St John’s (March 26) to come.
For boss Thorogood, it’s now time to get points on the board.
“March always looked like the month where we can look to get positive results,” he said. “All three teams are a little inconsistent and you never know what version of them will turn up.
“Leicester Nirvana are a funny old side. We must look to go there and get something.
“I think they beat us 2-0 at our place, but it was a very even game. I’d expect Saturday’s match to be no different, really.
“Our two rivals have difficult games on Saturday, so if things go to plan, we could be out of the relegation zone on Saturday night.
“If we apply ourselves properly, there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t get a win.”
Pinchbeck, who are two points from safety, had no league game at the weekend and saw Newark move five points clear of them, while Selston remain just two ahead.
They did play a friendly against fellow UCL side Sleaford Town, however, losing 3-1 at Knight Street.
Kyle Onyon did fire the much-changed Knights ahead, but they ended up shipping three unanswered strikes – including a double from former Spalding and Holbeach United ace Mitch Griffiths.
Thorogood felt the fixture was “a good exercise” and was pleased to give some of his fringe players a run out ahead of their remaining fixtures.
Saturday’s hosts Nirvana suffered a 3-2 home defeat against Heather St John’s on Saturday and have won just one of their last six – albeit it an impressive 4-2 win at free-scoring Melton Town.
